The Human-Power initiative (HPI) was formed in 2018 and is one of the active groups under Yaşar University YUTAM, Tasarım ve Araştırma Merkezi (design and research Center). [The original co-founders were Özgür Kilit, Mustafa Bicer, and Graeme Hanssen.]
Main focus of HPI is sustainability and zero carbon emissions. based on the following premises
- Cities were founded by people, for people; not founded for technology, not founded for profit, but founded for the protection of people.
- Urban development is seen a separation from nature, which needs to be reversed
- All studies point to the value and need for re-greening of cities and recovering public space for people – not for buildings and machines
- Whereas machines and technology has provided so many benefits, the energy required for this technology is negatively affecting the planet day by day
- Human power can still address or supplement energy requirements and rescue the urban environment
Activities have evolved into a Core Philosophy:
“H-PI is about developing machines and technology that supplements energy production using the body and the brain”
Spin-off projects:
- development of a continuous (self) charging system for electric LightWeight Vehicles
- development of PEDs (Positive Energy Sistricts) via Distributed Grids
